It was a quiet and cool morning as the stork flew through the pre-dawn sky.
In his bill he carried a set of twins which were to be delivered to their
mother and father who lived in the Mushroom Kingdom.
As the stork raced raced toward its destination, a loud shriek was suddenly
heard not to far ahead. As the Stork looked ahead it saw a giant turtle in a
wizard's gown rushing towards it with its arms outstretched to seize the
twins which it carried in its bill. Unable to react, the stork was quickly
seized and dragged back toward King Bowser's castle where the wizard
recided. However, the sudden seizure caused the stork to drop one of the
babies from its bill and thus the newborn quickly began to fall to a certain
doom at the ocean below.
Meanwhile, on Yoshi's Island, one of the green Yoshies was out on a peaceful
hike through the woods. It was a rather pleasant day and green Yoshi was
taking his time to enjoy the beauty of the forest when he suddenly heard a
strange sound. Looking up he quickly glanced upon the pouch before it
pounded off his head and hopped back on his saddle. Confused on what just
happened, the Yoshi slowly turned around to see a newborn human baby with a
red cap peeking its head out from inside the pouch.
Graphics [10/10]:
The graphics in this game are simply excellent. It's almost drawn from a
child's perspective, so most of the things are drawn bright and colorful.
Also, much of the game appears to be drawn in Crayon, but don't let that
fool you. The graphics in this game are absolutely top notch. This game
featured the combined powers of the Super FX2 chip and a fairly new
technology called Morphmation. These two technologies helped to create the
huge monsters and spectacular special effects without sacrificing graphics
quality and enjoyable game play.
Music and Sound [10/10]:
Catchy Mario type music, great sound effects. I certainly never tired
of them, and the music on the map is great!
Game Play [10/10]:
In Yoshi's Island you travel throughout the island through six worlds in
which each has eight stages. Part of these eight stages are a Fort Level,
and a Castle Level, in which you, at the end, fight a boss that was created
from Kamek's evil magic. If your successful in beating all of these stages
and manage to get a score of 100 in each of them, (That is, collecting all
20 Red Coins in a level, all 5 flowers, and managing to keep Mario's crying
timer at 30 seconds), you will open up a special level and earn the ability
to play one of the Bonus Challenges as many times as you want without having
to clear a level and collecting flowers for the GOAL! Ring. The game
implements some very cool original ideas, and is in many ways a complete
branch off from the standard Mario game. Quite Simply : This game rox.
Challenge & Replay [10/10]:
Despite it's cutesy exterior, this game can be VERY challenging and
difficult at times. And as for replay, well, you'll find yourself trying to
get 100 points at EVERY level, and trying to find EVERY secret. The replay
value is huge!
Conclusion/Overall [10/10]:
This is one of the best games ever made for SNES. However, this game
was sadly greatly overlooked due to the fact that it was released in late
1995. This was when the greater half of the population was beginning to
trade in their old 16-Bit systems for the new 32-Bit CD systems that were
offered by both Sega and Sony. All in all this game offers great gameplay
which will keep any player amused for quite a long period of time and its
enjoyability will make you want to go through it again and again. A definate
must play for anyone who enjoyed Yoshi's Story or has yet to experience a
great Yoshi game.
